Vacations, holidays and blocking dates

Availability in MakePlans is controlled per resource. There are two layers: the standard weekly opening hours set on the resource, and per-date overrides in the calendar. Blocking time off is done with these, plus "busy" bookings.

How availability works

  • Standard opening hours are set per weekday on each resource, under Setup > Resources. These apply to every week.
  • Per-date overrides are set in the calendar: go to the week you want to change and click the clock icon. Hours set there override the standard hours for those specific dates only.

Blocking a single day or part of a day

Go to the calendar, navigate to the week, click the clock icon and set the date as closed (or shorten the hours). This only affects the dates you change; to change another week, navigate to it and repeat.

You can also add breaks: when setting hours for a date, click "add" to enter multiple intervals, for example 09:00 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 15:00, leaving 12:00 to 13:00 unbookable.

Blocking a vacation period

For a longer absence the easiest method is to add a booking of type "busy" spanning the whole period, for example an all-day busy booking from 24 December to 2 January. This blocks the calendar so nothing can be booked in that period, and you don't have to touch the weekly hours. When the period ends, availability follows your standard opening hours again. The alternative is to set each affected date to closed with the clock icon, which is fine for a day or two but tedious for weeks.

Public holidays

By default the booking site is closed on public holidays. You can turn this off under Setup > Booking site ("Closed on public holidays").

  • The holiday calendar follows the country set on your account and uses the standard official public holidays for that country. The dates cannot be edited.
  • If you want to be open on one specific holiday but closed on the others, keep the setting on and instead set opening hours for just that date with the clock icon in the calendar.

Applying changes across many weeks or many resources

There is no bulk tool for copying availability across weeks or resources: per-date overrides apply only to the dates you enter, and availability is set on each resource individually. In practice:

  • For a closure affecting a long period, use a multi-day busy booking (per resource) rather than editing week by week.
  • For something that recurs, such as a lunch break or a weekly meeting, you can create a recurring busy booking in the admin calendar.
  • If the whole business is closed, you can also temporarily close the booking site itself under Setup > Booking site.

Opening only on specific dates

If you are only bookable on certain dates (a pop-up, seasonal weekends, a limited campaign), reverse the logic:

  1. Set the standard availability on the resource to closed on all weekdays.
  2. In the calendar, use the clock icon to set opening hours only on the dates you want bookable.

The booking site will then only show those dates. See also the help article Bookings within a limited timeframe.
